Abilene announced for largest AI infrastructure project with USD500 billion investment

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – President Donald Trump has unveiled the largest AI infrastructure project in history, with the first site located right here in Abilene, Texas. This project aligns with Lancium, a clean energy computing company that began construction of its clean energy data center in Abilene in 2022.

When the announcement was made that Lancium would come to Abilene, it was initially pitched as a leader in green, low-cost infrastructure designed to power the future with renewable energy. While Lancium was initially focused on using its data processing campus for Bitcoin mining, the company shifted direction in July 2023, partnering with fellow clean compute company Crusoe to develop a data processing campus that can support multiple clients. In 2024, it was announced that the data center will host multiple clients from various tech sectors, with the first focusing on artificial intelligence.

At a White House press conference, Trump introduced Stargate, an ambitious new American enterprise that will invest at least a staggering $500 billion in AI infrastructure, a move Trump claims will quickly generate over 100,000 American jobs.

Joining him at the conference were three of the biggest names in tech: Larry Ellison, Executive Chairman of Oracle; Masayoshi Son, CEO of SoftBank; and Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI.

“Together, these industry titans are proud to announce the launch of Stargate,” Trump said.

He then passed the stage to Ellison, who revealed that Abilene would be the location of the first facility.

“The data centers are already under construction here in Texas,” Ellison stated. “Each building is half a million square feet. There are 10 buildings currently being built, but that will expand to 20 other locations beyond the Abilene location, which is our first location.”

Ellison shared that Oracle aims to help doctors and patients better understand medical conditions and create personalized healthcare plans by utilizing AI in electronic health records.

“A doctor in Indian River Reservation would be able to see how a doctor at Memorial Sloan Kettering would treat the patient, or a doctor at Stanford would treat the patient. We actually provide all of that information, all of that guidance, to the doctor, the doctors who are treating cancer patients or patients of any other kind of disease made possible by AI,” Ellison explained.

He added that one of the most exciting initiatives they are working on is a cancer vaccine tailored to each individual person.

“It’s very interesting. It turns out all of our cancers, cancer tumors, little fragments of those tumors float around in your blood. So you can do early cancer detection with a blood test, and using AI to look at the blood test, you can find the cancers that are actually seriously threatening the person,” Ellison explained. “Then beyond that, once we gene sequence that cancer tumor, you can then vaccinate the person. Design a vaccine for every individual person to vaccinate them against that cancer. You can make that mRNA vaccine robotically again using AI in about 48 hours. So imagine early cancer detection, the development of a cancer vaccine for your particular cancer aimed at you, and having that vaccine available in 48 hours. This is the promise of AI and the promise of the future.”

Masayoshi Son, CEO of SoftBank, shared that they will immediately invest $100 billion, with the goal of reaching $500 billion within four years.

“So we are very excited to do this. Our partner is, of course, Softbank, Open AI, Oracle, and an additional investing partner with MGX. On top of that, we have the technology partner Nvidia, and of course, Microsoft has been very, very supportive and continues to support all our success,” Son shared.

He emphasized that this is not just business but a step toward improving people’s lives as we enter the “golden age.”

“This will help solve many issues; dfficult things that otherwise we could not have solved with the power of AI. I think AGI is coming very, very soon and that’s not the goal. After that, artificial superintelligence will come to solve the issues that mankind would never have thought we could solve. Well, this is the beginning of our golden age,” Son explained.

Back in July 2024, Lancium shared that, “Powering some of the most advanced AI workloads in the world, the Abilene site will serve as a cornerstone for one of the world’s largest data center campuses.”

That’s where Crusoe Energy Systems LLC stepped in to announce their construction of a 200 MW data center at the Lancium Clean Campus. According to a press release, “The purpose-built data center will include high-density data halls specially designed to enable AI workloads, including plans to draw on local renewable energy. The design will be optimized for direct-to-chip liquid cooling or rear-door heat exchangers and will be flexible enough to include air cooling. At completion, each data center building will be able to operate up to 100,000 GPUs on a single integrated network fabric, advancing the frontier of data center design and scale for AI training and inference workloads.”
